Whilst in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, I was able to get my hands on a copy of the last issue Mavrik Magazine. This may sound ordinary and dull, but I almost did a cartwheel when I saw it! The July/August 2006 issue contains photos that I TOOK at a concert this past summer in New Braunfels. The show was dubbed "Last Call at Saengerhalle" because they sold the old, charming Texas dancehall and were turning it into a church. "Out with the booze, in with the pews," according to performer Stoney LaRue.
My friend Rebecca and I went to the show, and I must confess that it was one of my favorite shows of all time! Cody Canada, Wade Bowen, and Stoney LaRue played for hours together (and Brandon Rhyder even showed up and played a few). They obviously had a good time, and the audience did too... It's a unique venue because it's near where all of these Texas musicians live, so it's like home to them. Sometimes they just show up and play. And it has a special place in my heart because I've attended a few really great shows there. Unforgettable ones.
Anyway, after the show I shared my pics with a few friends who had also attended (and a few I met that night!), and Kim from Mavrik magazine asked if they could publish some of them in an article about the show. "Of course!!! Absolutely!"
So, on pages 22-27 of the July/August issue, you can see a few of my photos from that show. My favorite part is on the inside cover. :) My name listed under "Contributing Photographers". NO, I'm not a professional, but it's pretty dang exciting to see your name in print (and not just in a scrapbook magazine- don't get me wrong, it's great, but it's my job.). :)
