I certainly don't think that those two words describe me, but today one of my customers said that she thought I was one. It made me chuckle a little bit... I've always seen myself (and been pinned) more of a negative person. I don't think I'm negative, exactly... I just like to think that I'm realistic. I analyze situations and call them like I see them. That's the "usual" me... but like any story (or just about anything in general), there's another side too. Through the experiences I've had in my short 30 years (which sometimes seem like 60), I've also honed in on another facet of myself that allows me to at least TRY to find the good. The way I see it, there's good and bad in everything- I can't think of many things that are JUST GOOD... so why ONLY focus on the BAD?
For example: Ice cream? Tastes great (good), goes straight to your hips (bad). Working out? Good for your health (good), bad for those who don't enjoy it (bad). Work? Not always fun (bad), but you get a paycheck for doing it (good). See? There's lots of them, but if you can't come up with your own examples, then you've got bigger issues than me having to point them out to you.
I feel like a few "life experiences" really led me to this point, and I'm so glad they did (but we won't bother with the details)! When I was in high school and college, I was such a perfectionist- about EVERYTHING. Don't get me wrong, I still am a perfectionist to some degree, but not anything like I was before. I guess after a little "real world" experience, I've realized that you just CAN'T control it all, and stressing out about the situations you can't control doesn't help- it only makes things worse. So why do it? LET IT GO. My previous boss used to always say, "It is what it is."... Five words, so true.
I guess it's just not worth it to always see the dark side... if there's a lighter side that will improve my mood, my perception, and inspire hope, I'm all for it!
Here's the the Eternal Optimist (if there actually is one somewhere)! :)
